Palm Kernel Oil for Skin: How to Use It on Dry Skin

Palm kernel oil for skin is simple: it is a rich oil that moisturizes, softens and seals in moisture, and a little goes a long way. This guide shows how to use black palm kernel oil on dry skin, where it works best, and how it compares with batana oil for skin.

We make Ude Aki black palm kernel oil, and the feedback we hear most is about moisture. Customers tell us it keeps their hair and skin soft and moisturized.

Palm kernel oil for skin: what it does

  • It moisturizes and softens. Rubbed into dry patches, it leaves skin feeling soft.
  • It seals in moisture. Put on damp skin, it helps hold that water in.
  • It gives a natural glow. A thin layer leaves skin looking smooth.

That is the whole list. Ude Aki is a moisturizer, and we do not claim it fixes any skin condition.

How to use palm kernel oil for skin

  1. Start with damp skin. The best time is straight out of the shower, while your skin is still slightly wet.
  2. Warm it first. Scoop a pea-sized amount and rub your palms together for a few seconds until it melts.
  3. Press it in. Smooth it over the dry places and give it a minute to absorb before you dress.

Use less than you think. This is a thick oil, and a pea-sized amount covers more than you expect.

Where it works best

  • Elbows and knees
  • Heels and the soles of the feet
  • Shins
  • The backs of the hands
  • Under a beard, worked in from the skin outward

Can you use it on your face?

It is a heavy oil. People do use it on the face, usually on dry patches rather than all over. If your skin is prone to congestion, test a small area first and see how it behaves over a few days. Keep it away from your eyes.

Palm kernel oil vs batana oil for skin

Batana oil for skin is a popular search, and the two oils are close cousins. Batana is a kernel oil from the American oil palm in Honduras. Ude Aki is a kernel oil from the African oil palm in Nigeria. Both are made the same way: the nuts are cracked, the kernels are cooked over a fire, and the oil is sieved.

Same family, different home, same job. Use either one the same way on skin: warm it, apply it to damp skin, and use a little.

What to expect the first time

  • Smell: strong, smoky and nutty. That is the real thing. It fades after a few minutes on skin.
  • Colour: deep caramel to rich brown in the jar, a warm caramel orange rubbed out thin. Keep it off light coloured clothes and sheets until it has absorbed.
  • Texture: solid when cool, it melts on contact with skin. Grainy is normal. Warm it to smooth it.
  • Solid or liquid: both are normal. Whatever the weather did in transit decides which one lands on your doorstep. If it arrives solid, warm it in your hands for a few seconds.

Safety

For external use only. Patch test on a small area before first use and stop if irritation occurs. Avoid contact with eyes. Not for use on broken skin. Keep out of reach of children. Store cool and closed.
